LiveBlog: 2008 Student Government Election Results

6:00 p.m. - Eric W. Freeman, Jr., here, ready to record the winners and losers of this Spring’s Student Government Elections. The location has been moved from outside the clock tower — due to great weather blinding the screen and lack of working speakers — to Lockett 2. This 500 seat room is now being filled with virtually every candidate, their families and supporters. It’s sure to be close. Rumor has it that a runoff may be in the future, but nothing is certain at this point.

6:03 p.m. - Standing at the podium is Student Government president Cassie Alsfeld, somewhat reminiscent of last year, when she won after a runoff with Change’s Paul Dietzel. But tonight, the mood is optimistic, but tense, as the results will be delivered shortly.

Ifti

6:06 p.m. - A guy named Ifti just pointed and laughed at me. Heehee, you’re now in the blog. I’m just recording what happens.

Mary

6:08 p.m. - Ifti’s friend Mary laughed at me too. She’s now, also, in the blog.

Cassie

6:09 p.m. - Cassie Alsfeld just gave me the wink and the gun. I think that’s a good thing. Jacob Gower is looking good in his suit. This is his time to shine.

6:09 p.m. - Interview for Parker Wishik:

“Are you hungover?”

“Absolutely not. I have a great steady mind, I’m excited for everyone regardless of results. I’m proud of everyone, and everyone did a wonderful job.”

6:10 p.m. - Commissioner of Elections Jacob Gower explains the Powerpoint. Names in black lost, names in green are in a runoff, and names in red won outright.

College Councils

6:12 p.m. - In the Agriculture college, Foundation wins Treasurer, Vision wins Secretary, Foundation wins VP, and Vision wins President. Check your ballots.

Art and Design

6:13 p.m. — Treasurer goes to Vision, Secretary goes to Vision, Vice President goes to Vision, and President makes it a clean sweep.

Arts and Sciences

6:14 p.m. - Treasurer goes to Vision, Secretary goes to Vision, Vice President goes to Vision, and President the Foundation in an upset.

Basic Sciences

6:15 p.m. - Treasure goes to Foundation, Secretary goes to Vision, which makes deafening applause.

Business

6:16 p.m. - Treasurer goes to the Foundation, Secretary goes to Vision, Vice President goes to Vision, and President goes to Vision. Congrats Ryan Chenevert.

Education

6:16 p.m. - Treasurer goes to Vision, while President is won by Amanda Monroe of Vision.

Engineering

6:17 p.m. - Foundation wins Treasurer, Executive Secretary goes to Kyle Breaux of Foundation, Vice President is won by Sean Brennan of the Foundation.

Mass Communication

6:18 p.m. - Treasurer goes to a runoff is announced between Caroline Barnes and Kat Ingram. Secretary goes to Foundation’s Chelsey Laborde. Vice President goes to Ashley Baudoin of Vision, and President goes to another runoff. Joe Coussan and Michael Laborde prevent Whitney Breaux from winning.

UCAC

6:20 p.m. - Jeanne Colman of Foundation wins Treasurer, Sarah Sadler wins Secretary from Foundation, Vice President goes to Jude Brunet of Vision, and the new President is Brittany Beckner of Vision.

UCFY

6:21 p.m. - Treasurer goes to Samantha Navarra in a crushing victory for Vision. Vice President goes to Kristin Petry of Vision. President goes to Brent Benoit of Vision.

Senate

6:22 p.m. - Agriculture, the two seats go to Caleb McKenzie and Stephen Simoneaux of Foundation and Vision.

Arts and Sciences: Amanda Gammon, Meghan Brown, Kevin Guillory, and two other I couldn’t blog quickly enough.

Basic Sciences: Chandler Cortina is outsted.

Business: Scott Safron and Greg. Again, couldn’t type quick enough.

Engineering: Chris Brown. Run it!

Mass Comunication: Parker Wishik wins it!

UCAC: Meghan Hanna, Travis Andrews and Sarah Romero.

UCFY: Six seats awarded to Gabriella, Neil, Francis, Michael and Melissa. Check your push cards. I’m not a machine.

Union Board Representative

6:25 p.m. - Joe Curry of Vision takes it.

University Court Justice

6:26 p.m. - Jessica C Chatelain and Parker Maxwell of Vision, while Aaron Phipps and Curtis White go to runoff.

The top prize

6:26 p.m. - The new student body president and vice president will be: decided in a runoff. Colorado Robertson gains 3371 votes, while Dixon McMakin gains 3180. The runoff will be next Wednesday. Until then, peace out!
